Chapter One: In early 1998 I found myself in a most
enviable position, for the first time in my 40+ years of life I
have time to nurture my creative spirit. As exciting as that may
sound, it was also a bit daunting as I soon realized that having
more time, meant greater expectations. The worker bee mentality in
me would not allow me to while away the hours (and dollars) on friendly
exchanges. My answer to this was to make money with my art work.
However, shortly thereafter I realized that this was not the path
I wished to take.
Okay, so now I set some short and long term goals
for myself. For now, I've decided to work on my skills a bit and
explore my options. Long term, I hope that I may generate some degree
of income, even if only to pay for my never ending accumulation
of art tools and supplies.
Well, that was nearly a year ago. It's been a productive
year and I can definitely see signs of progress. I've managed to
publish in several art publications. I've learned to draw and paint,
and will continue to sharpen these skills.
The next hurdle seems to be WHAT direction to take.
What inspires me, what am I passionate about? There are specific
things I'm drawn to, such as faces, human form, hands, eyes, architectural
elements, but it's not enough to just create these fragments without
an underlying "meaning."
Chapter Two: Figure out who I am, where I've been
and illustrate it through collage, painting, and drawing. Along
the way, I hope to gain a better understanding of not only myself
and why I am driven to create, but to let things flow naturally
without artificial stimuli.
I currently reside in Peachtree City, Georgia with my husband and
two sons but grew up on the sun drenched shores of South Florida.
The coastal life was so much a part of me. I never realized just
how much until we moved here six years ago. I struggled to find
my sense of place in this heaviliy forrested terrain but have grown
to love and identify with this earthly sensibility.
Early on I experimented with pottery, stained glass, textiles,
and paper arts. In 1997 I began a full time study of drawing, painting
and mixed media.
I see myself standing on a threshold between fine art and fine
craft. I love working with my hands, I love painting. My art mirrors
my roots in both genres.
