Awenita's artwork draws the interconnected lines in her life's journey, metaphorically and abstractly. But it is not so difficult to identify with the themes, once you know the name and ideas behind each series. Her two current series Map and Equator, illustrate abrupt life changes, telling a story of her travels
through those stages.

The Map series records time, like an abstract cave painting, telling of Awenita's move from Los Angeles to Santa Fe, after receiving her BFA at the University of Southern California. The road trip on highway I-40, and the dramatic scenery change
from the two cities can be seen and felt, with wisps of tall buildings in the beginning, to subtle hints of earth and adobe in the final composition. The deep layering effects provide a glimpse into the underlying emotions and trials this event introduced in to her life.

In the same way, her current Equator series highlights another profound journey in her life, moving from her childhood home of Santa Fe to the hills and fog of San Francisco. The lines in each panel describe this transition, intertwining the familiar southwestern desert with the foreign, foreboding social landscape of the new city. Awenita used only three oil colors
on canvas for this series.

Awenita uses complex layering techniques, combining a recipe
of wax, linseed oil, and
Gamblin oil paints, on stretched linen, canvas, or wood. Her artistic family of painters and musicians started her on a path towards art at a very young age, eventually achieving the Presidential Scholarship for a full scholarship at
the Highlands University, Las Vegas New Mexico, and a transfer scholarship to USC in Los Angeles for the the final two years of undergrad studies.

Many years spent working in major art galleries, from classical
to modern, influenced her style and techniques, as well as gave her a firm grasp on the difficult art world. Currently Awenita lives in San Francisco and is studying interior design at the
University of California, Berkeley.
